Health Update – Physical Therapy


I have to give an enormous amount of praise and appreciation to all physical therapists out there. Truly these people are on the life savers list, they perform miracles each day helping people relieve pain and gain function on anything that ails them. I have had my share of their results driven expertise in the ankle (volleyball), neck (basketball), piriformis (fell down a flight of stairs in SF… this one was a doozie!), foot (about to embark again on this one soon, Lord help me). After every PT treatment series I’ve had, it’s almost as if the injury never happened. Only thing is, the exercises / program must be kept up with at home and maintained indefinitely. Yes, that can be tough at times but think of the benefits—so many especially ones I’ve experienced (see links further below).

It’s worth investing in what your PT recommends e.g. resistance bands, free weights, exercise equipment (I’d personally be lost without my stationary bike… great while binge watching shows!) pays off greatly. Probably the best benefit I’ve had is through resistance training 2-4 x a week, keeps me stronger, leaner, more flexible, and one of my 2 favorites: 1. prevents impact of futures injuries, cuts healing time in half. 2. I will not shrink as I get older! Have you ever noticed any of your senior family members appear smaller than they were… having shrunk about an inch or more as time goes on? (yes, I know this can be adorable too…) This can be avoided by you know what.

Damage can’t be undone but it can be managed. If you’ve been experiencing a pain that just doesn’t seem to go away after a couple of weeks or something isn’t quite right… go to your DR. and get checked asap. Fingers crossed whatever it is, can be treated through PT.
